Election Promise Tracking

This is another Chukua Hatua pilot carried out in Ngorongoro district and Shinyanga region. While an elaborate mechanisim is in place with regards to how local leaders can campaign and be voted into office, unfortunately there in no mechanism of how citizens can track election promises and compel their leaders to deliver on their promises. Oxfam seeks to change this culture of viewing elections as a political game, by equipping local citizens with the skills and tools to document, monitor and challenge local leaders to account for their promises in the districts of Shinyanga and Ngorongoro. There are 16 election trackers from Ngorongoro and 36 from Shinyanga region.

Farmer Animator

Farmer Animator is a pilot that is carried out by Oxfam Tanzania in Shinyanga region. So far there are 202 animators equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to raise awareness and provoke discussions and actions, while enabling the process to be owned by the local communities. Working with the animators also enables different communities to work on issues and through processes that are relevant to the context in which they live. The community animators would play a large part in assisting the communities to achieve their aims as well as imparting the skills and knowledge to other members of the community so that the process remains dynamic.

Active Musicians

Active Musicians/Artists aims at empowering and exposing traditional artists/musicians from rural Ngorongoro and Shinyanga to gain skills and experience on governance and accountability. So that they become more vocal through their works and create more governance songs. 42 musicians from Shinyanga region and Ngorongoro have formed a group called Chukua Hatua and have recorded one song, TUWAHOJI (Lets Ask Them) featuring Jaymoe and K-Sher from Dar-Es-Salaam.Their music video is in last stage to be released after launching their single in Kahama, Bukombe, Shinyanga Rural, Maswa, Kishapu and Loliondo in July, 2011.

Ngorongoro Women

Ngorongoro has been a home of tourism, attracts millions of people from all over the world to visit and see how men have been living together with wild animals. They pay millions of dollars. Recently there have been arrangements to shift these men to another area, the methods used for doing so have been harsh to these people. The most affected groups are women and children. It is obvious to react when somebody destroy your house, kill your animals and take life of your love ones. You will have to REACT. Ngorongoro women have react, because their land is about to be grabbed.
